It was an intense week of SCUBA classes-- in the classroom, pool and ocean but as of last night after our final ocean dive, we are officially a real life mermaid & merman PADI certified!!
It is AMAAAZING. We both LOVE the ocean and were already fish, but there is nothing like actually swimming + breathing in crystal turquoise water 60 feet below the surface. We are hooked.
It's one of the most exhilarating things we've ever done together.
You also burn around 400 calories per half hour. Our instructor told us that we would be exhausted after our weekend dives and would want to eat a wildebeest.

Congratulations!! That's SO awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat's brilliant. I'd love to get certified sometime, would be great fun!

Come say hey at Ducklingtoswan.com!
So cool! I have always wanted to try scuba diving! I was showing my friend some of your photos this morning and we decided Japan is ranking higher and higher on our list of places to go!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I've only ever been snorkeling and I know that that cannot compare. Also, that's a lot of calories, wow.
DeleteYay, congratulations! So exciting.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of freakin calories! Congrats on getting certified. Your life will never be the same!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS!
ReplyDeleteWe are doing an intro dive in a couple of weeks. Cannot wait.
Is it bad that I'm even more excited now that I know you burn so many calories??!
I'm also padi certified - scuba diving is one of the most incredible things ever! I haven't been in a couple of years though, maybe I out to do a refresher class :)

so fun! everytime i go snorkeling i get seasick (seriously! how does that happen) so not sure if it would be different if i was deeper underwater as opposed to bobbing at the top but this looks beautiful! and the calories burned? amazing!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Congrats! I'd love to try scuba diving on my honeymoon, but my fiance had a panic attack when he tried on a past vacation and had to come right up! It looks beautiful though!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you both!
ReplyDeleteTHAT IS AWESOME!!!! CONGRATS!!!! I didn't realize you burned so many calories doing that?! Nuts. And I totally thought that was you with the pink bunny ears! :P
ReplyDeleteCongrats! That's an amazing accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteIt's about time! We took Cam on a discovery dive 11yrs ago!! (Can you believe the cruise was that long ago!?) Oh how time flies :)
ReplyDeleteI want to take Emily on a dive, there is nothing like the serenity of being under water... it puts everything into perspective for me being a guest in an entirely different world!
Tim and I are scaredy cats and Tim is TERRIFIED of sharks but it does sound pretty great (except for the off chance that your lungs explode or you get left out at sea or you get eaten by piranhas... the list goes on) :) GLAD you are having fun little miss mermaid! PS. Super Tuesday show in NY so maybe outside time in the frigid sunshine but won't be the same without you!!!!!!!! love, lanneybear
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! That is so awesome!!
ReplyDelete400 cals every half hour while taking in all the ocean's marvels? I have definitely been doing the wrong workout!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome you had the chance to do this. I'm sure it was beautiful to say the least!
400 calories for .5 an hour? One more reason to start lessons!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your certification!
