Latest Finds from the Zagreb Antique Market

This old wine/water jug that I spent weeks bartering over and finally got it for around $5!

These two cutie pie little chairs that the kids love having in the living room and I love the pop of blue. It fits Gracie perfectly and she now has her morning tea party here!

This big basket to hold their toys… at least at the beginning and end of the day;)

This antique scale that the kids like to play with. Normally they go for around 200 kuna / $28 but I’ve become friends with some of the vendors and he sold it to me for around $10!

More Zagreb Antique Market and other latest finds here and here.

Latest Finds from the Zagreb Antique Market

My husband jokes that even though he has no idea what a “bread bowl” is, surely my rapidly growing collection of them is a steal because hey, Pottery Barn sells them for hundreds of dollars! And I get mine for under ten!
I love our weekly antique market and enjoy the bartering, language practice, coffee drinking and stories behind each good find as much as the good find itself. These are just a few to share with you… there are many more. Each one adds it’s own character and story to our home.  The chair and blue plate above were some of the first things I found at the market.

These old pulls on the drawers.

Cam’s glass decanters to hold all of the rakija from our neighbors.

My gorgeous baby grand piano that Cam surprised me with for Christmas!! It actually came from Croatia’s craigslist but it’s more of a genuine antique than anything you could find at the market. I burst out laughing when he told me how little he spent on it. It’s from 1880 and after being tuned and cleaned, it plays beautifully. It’s a dream! I love watching our kids at it each day – John Shea plays with his knees so he can watch the hammers move inside, and as soon as he can sit still long enough I’m going to start his lessons. Also, that’s another chair from the market, and how awesome is that bed head?

Is Rakija the liquor made from the stems and skins of the grapes after the wine harvest?? We call it Raki in Greece. My husband loves it so much, he swears it helps with digestion. I call it fire water, haha!

Yes!! Haha that is exactly how I describe it too, ha! It's usually made from plums here but there's also grape, pear, pretty much every kind of fruit.
