240th Marine Corps Birthday Ball

They were super excited to be in a photo with us.

I wasn’t sure the Ball was still going to happen one night after the horrible terrorist attacks in Paris.
But it did, and I’m glad that we could go on as planned, unafraid. We all stood together in silence, and prayed for the lives lost and families left behind. The Ball commemorates the birth of the USMC, and celebrates all that it and Marines stand for… which is in stark contrast to the evil that sadly permeated the streets of Paris. It felt fitting this weekend to honor and celebrate something so deeply committed to destroying that evil.

The US Ambassador and The President of Croatia (she is lovely!) both came to the Ball, so I think we were in the most armored place in the whole country. President Grabar-Kitarovic is Croatia’s first female president and arguably the most pro-western, free market capitalist in it’s history.

Happy 240th birthday, Marines! I’m so proud of my husband and of all of you!

Aw! Jordan! I'm sorry I'm so lame. I only don't because I think, who on earth would even care? But now that I know you do, I'll try to remember to! The dress is from Nordstrom but I got it from Sarah Tucker, the style queen 🙂

That creepy moment when your husband kept appearing on my Facebook newsfeed due to being friends with a bunch of Embassy people and Marines on FB. HA! I meant to email you about it but totally forgot so thanks for reminding me with this post. I promise to email you soon to catch-up : ) I also saw you went to the Halloween event at the Embassy and I know the woman in the CLO who organized it! Her husband was my boss. Such a small world 🙂

Do you mean Lejla?? If you do, I love her! She has helped us so much. Everyone at the embassy has been wonderful – what an awesome community. Looking forward to your email and catching up! Hope you're doing well!

Thank you! Bianca, I cannot wait for the day we get to meet in person. I wish we had been able to while we were in California, but bed rest changed all of our travel plans those last months. I have a feeling we share a lot of the same views!
