North Carolina Farmhouse

Our Bonus Room Renovation (And Bed & Reading Nook Addition)

Our bonus room is finished and it turned out so beautiful! Cam has now done custom carpentry throughout our house… just in time to move again this summer, ha! We haven’t renovated every room we’d hoped to, but the main living spaces are done and I LOVE what he’s done!

Here is the “before” of our bonus room:
It was completely unfinished, down to the studs. There was no HVAC, no insulation, drywall or flooring. It was either 1000 degrees (you literally could not go in here during summer for more than a minute or two) and freezing cold during the winter.

Now, it’s so lovely! I am so proud of my husband. We had originally played with the idea of turning this into a guest room when needed and school room the rest of the time in case we needed to homeschool our kids this past year, but God provided a wonderful school for them. The babies have brought all their toys in since I took these photos and have happily taken over this room. They love reading and sleeping in the bed nook and have taken turns staying in here each night since Christmas!

Remember all the trees Cam cut down in our front and back yard and then had milled? He created these beams and shelves out of them! They match the beams he built in our kitchen. As soon as he put in the shelves, the kids brought in some of their favorite books and have really adopted this area as their own. I would have thought they’d be scared to sleep in a huge room (it’s larger than our living room, over 220 sq. ft.) but they get all snuggled up and call it a camp out.

Hopefully the family that rents our house will enjoy this room as much as ours does 🙂

That small shelf is a cool idea, I like this new reading nook addition.
