Field to Vase Dahlias

I may have mentioned a time or ten that I have a slight obsession with flowers. They make me so darn happy. And during this past week, they’ve brightened up our home and my spirit even more than usual.
I’ve been going to the farmer’s market down the road from us each week since we moved here. There are some amazing vendors who I love getting to chat with and learn a little more each time about their farms and produce. I always leave inspired, with recipe ideas in my head and my bag full of flowers, eggs, meat, veggies and fruit to take home. I look forward to it every week. This time, I got there at the end, when Thomas Farm was giving away two bunches of dahlias for every two bunches bought. I came home with an armful of them, beaming, which made Cam chuckle, and mixed in some sage and roses from our yard. One of the things Cam and I have looked forward to about living in this part of California is supporting local farms and building a relationship with the people we buy our food from. And without even realizing it, now our flowers, too.
There’s so many good gifts here. Bright dahlias, a pretty table found at an antique store in Pacific Grove, an olive tree from the farmer’s market, snapshots of our adventures from all over the world, and the very best and sweetest — our darling baby boy on the verge of taking his first steps.
