Japan Life Okinawa

Kabira Bay & Around Ishigaki Island, Japan

Kabira Bay: famed for being one of the top 5 most beautiful sites in all of Japan. With the soft turquoise and emerald clear water amidst the lush islands and colorful boats, it was truly stunning! It’s also where black pearls are harvested, and sold in Kabira Village.

Sukuji Beach. This is one of my favorite photos from the week. It makes me think of summertime and how still, peaceful and relaxing it can be. We stopped and took a swim here together before lunch in the very shallow Philippine Sea… with the entire stretch of the bay to ourselves ! The Yaeyama Island chain is such a quiet, serene, glorious place to visit, with few people around. We are grateful to have seen one of the most remote and southern parts of Japan.

The wild mini monkeys…

Cape Uganzaki Lighthouse on the northwest side of Ishigaki. It’s one of the top dive spots and places to watch the sunset.

… but like this big fella, we went back to our hotel to beat the afternoon heat and nap.
