Peonies + 5 Things

I just learned a verrry important word in Japanese: sha-cu-ya-ku.  Also maybe the most fun word to say. We keep pronouncing it with attitude. Shaa-CU-yaa-KU!  It’s meaning? Peony!! {My favorite flower in the entire universe. Following are pomponellas, gardenias, garden roses and lavender. Yours??} Cam snuck out over the weekend to secretly buy me peonies. Ugh, I love that man!

Thank you so much for the congratulations and sweet words about having a boy!! We are beyond excited, and it’s so much fun getting to share this time with you all.

5 Pregnancy Things:

1. Gender: Cam called it in our very first ultrasound. I was fixated through blurry-mascara eyes, while he let out an astonished yelp of joy that he saw little boy parts. His face was priceless! The doc said it was too early to tell us the gender, but we’ve both felt these past months that he is a he and are so glad to know now.

2. Name: We’re thinking long and hard on the names we picked out ages ago… soo, not yet.

3. Cravings: Chocolate. What else is new?? I also look forward to my kale-green-smoothies everyday {really!} and have never loved red meat as much as I do right now.


4. Babymoon: I just booked our trip today !! We’re spending our anniversary at the end of the month in the Yaeyama Islands about an hour flight South of here!

5. Nursery: One of my goals while Cam was gone was to
clean out his “man room” that would become the nursery. That in and of itself is kind of hilarious. I organized all
of his tools, sold a bunch of stuff we didn’t need anymore, and cleaned
it all out… to have him come home from deployment and fill it with all
his Marine Corps gear he had with him. Ha! I don’t even care. I’m just soo happy to have him home. We do have a crib, Cam hung the
curtains this weekend, and I found a beautiful antique world map that
will cover almost an entire wall that we’re building a frame for. And
some very special framed prints that I’ll also share once the room looks like a room
again (;

    I've been peeking into the site for about a month now but it's my first comment so first, HI!! Second – congrats on finding out you're having a boy! I grew up with two Marines cousins, really more like big brothers, so I know how much they love the prospect of having mini-mes! Third, your pictures of the flowers you get are just DIVINE! It makes me want to cover my whole house in flowers! Can I ask what kind of camera you use? My cameras just aren't cutting it anymore!

      Hi Sarah! Thank you!! I have a Nikon d90 but am hoping to upgrade very soon .. though I can't say enough good things about that camera – I have loved it!

      Absolutely! I found it on Amazon — I can't find the exact one since it was weeks ago that I ordered it, but I searched "large world map" and a ton of great options came up! Good luck finding one you like! (:

    I adore adore adore peonies- (well all flowers truly hahaha) – and these pictures are so adorable. I saw someone else ask this but do you have prints of these by chance?

    I can't wait to see a picture of that map- I LOVE antique maps so I am so excited to see that!!

    CONGRATS again on the baby boy!!! Y'all are so adorable and I am so sure that the Lord will guide your steps each day as you finish out your pregnancy and the days and months to go with little man!

    I am so happy it's peony season!!! Just wish it lasted longer. I have recently fallen in love with garden roses because they have the same fullness and are so gorgeous, so I'll be using them as some of my wedding flowers because peonies will be long gone by October 🙂

    i just picked up a bunch of bright fuscia peonies and absolutely love them! they smell wonderful. i would absolutely decorate my entire apartment with peonies (if only my boyfriend would let me 🙂 beautiful pictures! xo

    Peonies just started blooming in my yard too. Love this time of the year! My very favorite flowers are hydrangeas, followed closely by peonies. :-). Oh, and since you're my photography inspiration ;-), I have a question for you. HOW do you photograph a white flower (as you did in this post) and get so much detail. Apparently I don't know how to play with white balance, every time it just comes out a big flash-out of white! Tell me your secrets oh wise one!!! Oh, and congrats on having a SON!!!!!!
