Valentine’s Sweets

Are you a lover or hater of Valentine’s? Thanks to my parents, I grew up a lova. Each year they gave my three brothers and I valentines before school. See’s Candies to be exact {aka the greatest chocolates in all the land}. They also always gave a sweet card reminding how much they loved me and that I was their valentine. Even as an adult before getting married, they sent me a bouquet of flowers at work.

I hope one day when Cam and I have little kids running around, Lord willing!, that we make sure to do the same — remind them over and over again how dearly they’re loved and cherished. Love starts in the home, and my parents were so good at giving it to us four kids in leaps and bounds… even when we were a total pain in the butt… which was most of the time.

If you want to make someone feel special, these cookies stuffed with peanut butter m&ms do the trick. They’re adorable and soft and gooey in in the inside.

Peanut Butter Chip Heart Cookies
{makes 1-2 dozen small hearts}

2 1/4 C organic flour
1 C raw sugar
1 C butter {2 sticks}, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 C peanut butter m&m’s or chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350. Beat the butter until smooth. Stir in the sugar and extract. Beat in both of the eggs. Add in the flour, salt and baking soda, mixing together. Once everything is combined, carefully fold in the peanut butter m&ms or chocolate chips.
Cover a 9×15 pan with waxed paper or aluminum foil. Lightly spray. Pour in the cookie batter, spreading it out evenly. Bake for about 25 minutes — though please keep an eye on it because my oven bakes much slower than most! Bake until just golden brown on top. Once cooled, cut into heart shapes.

We were just talking in the office about valentines day and I realised this will be the first year in my life that I won't get a valentine from my precious daddy. He always gave me a chocolate heart (I even have a photo somewhere of me at 11 months eating my choc heart…ok more like sucking on a choc heart) and later he sent me flowers and a chocolate heart to work.

You are so right that love begins in the home and my dad knew just how to love!!

I sure am going to miss him this valentines day….maybe I will make the cookies and start a new tradition.

Blasted! Currently baking sugar cookies with silly red sprinkles on top for the Mr. I'm 99.9% sure he'd prefer these M&M cookies.

We're huge fans of Valentines Day! The cheesier the better. Plus, any "little" occasion deserves a BIG celebration.

Aww Amanda, your parents are the sweetest! What a beautiful tradition to carry on one day. I too "hoard" all my old letter's, I need to think of a cuter way to keep them then in a plastic bag under my bed ๐Ÿ™‚

PS – these deserts look a-maz-ing!
