Where to Find the Best Donuts in Zagreb!

Ruh roh, two sweets posts in a row – I must be pregnant or something! John Shea and I had a date at Miss Donut and both agreed they’re the best donuts in Zagreb… which is saying something as there is a bakery on every corner and practically every ten steps in our city.  What a Croat (or us!) will never miss at breakfast time is coffee. A lot of our friends in Zagreb also grab a pastry on their way to class or work or to go meet someone for … you guessed it, more coffee! Croatian donuts are called krafna, that are usually filled with nutella or a fruit jam and aren’t as sweet as what you find in the States. Miss Donut specializes in American style donuts, which is something I’ve craved for almost two years. Craving satisfied!!

The location of the donut shop is outside the charming streets of the old city and might be a little tricky for a tourist to find, but it’s a bright, happy spot amidst all the gray buildings in the neighborhood. I really admire anyone who starts their own business in a tough economy so I couldn’t miss the opportunity to share about this lovely and delicious shop! Also, the owner is young and kind and gets up before dawn each morning to make her donuts from scratch with changing flavors each day. Her shop is also adorable inside! Hanging flowers, a hot chocolate station, pastel colored tables and chairs and a display case of donuts with sprinkles, oreo, creme brulee, lido chocolate, cinnamon rolls and apple fritters, just to name a few.

I love trying bakeries and cafes with this sweet boy! He brought one of his tractors and his favorite tractor book that we read while sharing a sprinkled donut and a pink kava s mljekom for me.

Miss Donut is out near Maksimir Park on Harambašićeva Street 32a 🙂
